When picturing a pirate, the images that spring to mind are of a rugged long beard, a tri-cornered hat with a skull and cross bones, black leather heavy boots and a cutlasses sword on the hips, a menacing image and one that you don’t want to mess with. The rugged treasure hunting pirate travelling throughout the seven seas searching for gold coins and long lost jewels now belongs in Hollywood blockbuster movies; that not to say that there aren’t pirates now in a modern world but they are more of a different kind, ones that hunt for a different type of treasure.
Introducing The Pirates, a unique online fashion and accessories shop that sells that one off treasure that no one else will have. Pippa Pirates the co-founder of the online shop describe it as ‘’Put simply our goal is to stay true to our name. So we are Pirates – we have to sell treasures! This means things that are unique, amazing, fun, outrageous, rare or timeless in their own right.”
This online shop started originally from Etsy sourcing their materials across the seven seas worldwide; Etsy is where Pippa Pirates shops for her jewellery and fashion, “I would have to say Etsy.com. It is like an online flea market, and the range is so vast. This is also where The Pirates first launched online so I suppose I have a soft spot”.
The Pirates range consists of unique and one off pieces that won’t’ be found on the high street, a unique mixture of vintage and bohemian,
“Certainly, the goal is not to have any ‘filler’ items. In our ‘pirate philosophy’ we say ‘The Pirates don’t do trends, they do jaw-dropping’ (…) we think this is becoming more important to people when shopping. We want to enjoy fashion and shopping, and not have horrible stuff like sweatshops and landfills on our conscience.”
The Pirates is a unique place to shop for that rare timeless piece, so hop aboard to this shop as you won’t be disappointed, after all their philosophy is “Life’s too short not to wear amazing clothes”.
Here are the quotes she gave me:
In a few short word what is the philosophy behind The Pirates? (or in a few short sentence if that be easier for you?)
Put simply our goal is to stay true to our name. So we are Pirates – we have to sell treasures! This means things that are unique, amazing, fun, outrageous, rare or timeless in their own right. We’re also quite ‘punk’ and that is reflected in the rebelliousness associated with pirates!
Why the name ‘Pirates’?
Sheer coincidence a few of us have eerily ‘piratey’ names – Sin (like Sinbad), Booty …. and I’m Pippa Pirate…
Would you say the jewelry and the clothes are vintage bohemian?, They are pieces that won’t be found on the high street.
Certainly, the goal is not to have any ‘filler’ items. In our ‘pirate philosophy’ we say ‘The Pirates don’t do trends, they do jaw-dropping’.
Our jeweller also has very high standards when it comes to the pieces we sell, and does valuations professionally so we’re always sure these aren’t mass produced things, like what you can easily find on your average high street. We think this is becoming more important to people when shopping. We want to enjoy fashion and shopping, and not have horrible stuff like sweatshops and landfills on our conscience.
Where do you get your pieces from? Where do you buy them?
On our travels across the seven seas! We source things worldwide, and pick everything individually.
Where your favorites place to shop for clothes and jewelry?
I would have to say Etsy.com. It is like an online flea market, and the range is so vast. This is also where The Pirates first launched online so I suppose I have a soft spot!
