When I posted last week my purple bedroom décor on my Instagram, I had people asking where I got certain items. Well, today I’m going to talk about it.
I’m dubbing it as my perfect purple bedroom décor as in my eyes it is perfect and I just love it. I have been wanting a purple styled bedroom for so long. It bit of a silly thing to be wishing for but I grew up in a home where everything has to be white. And yes that includes white walls, sheets, carpet and furniture. My parents were crazy – and still am – about having white décor throughout the home.
So I basically grew up really wanting to paint or decorate my bedroom in colours. It doesn’t have to be a multitude of colours and be like a rainbow. But something that isn’t plain boring white. As you can imagine I’m not a fan of the minimalistic style. But my parents always put their foot down and told me I could paint my bedroom when I move out.
I did move out – eventually and rented a place with Richard. Once again as it was a rented place, I couldn’t paint the wall or put my own stamp on anything. We were allowed to move in furniture’s, but not to take down the mouldy curtains or put anything on the wall. I was stuck again for several years till we bought our current place.
This time we were told we could do anything we want – as long as we don’t knock down any walls. But we basically had a blank canvas to work on.
Oh boy, you bet I wasn’t going to have white walls. So once we moved in, we set about creating my perfect purple bedroom décor.
Why a purple bedroom I hear you ask? Well that a very good question as it just simply my favourite colour. Crazy for the colour purple, just ask anyone who knows me.
It was just natural that I wanted a purple bedroom. I just want to point out now, that this isn’t a full bedroom tour. I have left some part of the room out. There no big mystery why I ‘m not showing it- that it is filled with laundry.
Anyway, with the walls, we settled on two-tone of purple: a lilac colour and deep purple. We both couldn’t agree with what tone to have, so we split it. The top half of the wall a lilac colour and the bottom a deep purple. We then decided to put a white border to neaten it up a little.
On my bedside drawers, I will admit I tidied it for the sake of the photos. But I do usually have my books on there. I bought some bedside lamp to put on our bedside drawers The lamp was from Wilko.
Next is the actual bed, can’t have a bedroom if there no bed. Well, you can but it still will be odd. Richard found some purple fairy lights from Homebase and placed them at the top of the bed. They look better at night. But I’m thrilled I got some purple fairy lights.
The actual sheet I bought from John Lewis, only to realize I didn’t buy their pillowcases to match. I have seen some beautiful bed sheet duvet on the Ted Baker website, that I think will look a lot better than my current one.
The reach for the star’s signs references how I got glow in the dark stars on my ceiling. Didn’t photograph as it doesn’t work well during the daytime. But at nighttime when it completely dark, I can look up and see glowing stars on my ceiling. Richard surprise me one day with this. So one day I was in Sass and Belle and saw the reach for the star’s signs so I bought it and put it up on my wall.
For valentine’s day one year, Richard brought me these cherry blossom lights from Habitat. They are lights that supposed to look like cherry blossom. Very pretty when lights are on and also fit in nicely with my purple bedroom décor.
One final thing I want to show is my painting picture I have above my bed. We spent ages and ages trying to find a perfect painting picture to put there. Richard found this purple watercolour painting in Homebase. Another item that fitted in well with my purple bedroom décor.
That was my purpled bedroom décor. I do need to buy a rug and set a proper storage area for my laundry. But apart from that it is finished and I’m thrilled that I now have a bedroom where I can put my own style stamp.
Will you be creating your own purple bedroom décor?
